Our Concert-Grade Baby Grand Piano, Gloria 3!!!

As we’ve focused on music, the response from everyone has been wonderful!  Our favorite regulars, visitors and the artists themselves have all made it clear that what we have is special - a “Good Room” (Flautist extraordinaire Kenny Stahl) that’s a “Pocket Cathedral” (Zach Westfall, amazing bassist and our steadfast Music Director managing our Music Calendar) that is “The best jazz club on the Peninsula, and it’s not even close” (Bruce Forman, legendary guitarist)

So we have committed to our identity as a premier Music Lounge by investing in a Yamaha G3 Baby Grand piano - beloved as a performing and recording instrument by elite players around the world!

Here’s how we’ve ended up with this amazing instrument!

- Spring 2024 - Having taken ownership in October ‘23, I was talking with regular customer Taylor, who pointed out that we need a piano.  I tell him I very much agree, but don’t know when or how I’ll get to it. “Pianos are listed on Craig’s List all the time and I have a truck - how about if I grab one for you?”  Yes!!!  Within a week, we have Gloria 1, a Wurlitzer student upright. Thank you Taylor!!

Fall 2024 - we’re already gaining traction as a venue, so I call a piano tech to work on Gloria 1. Chris Cochran (www.christopherpiano.com) shows up and does what he could with a student upright.  He asks about what we’re doing, hears our story and says “What you’re doing is great - I’ve got to get you a better piano!”). So he does!  A few months later he delivers us Gloria 2, a Kimball Baby Grand he obtained from the Gloria Academy of Music up in Silicon Valley, and which started us officially nicknaming our pianos Gloria!  Thank you Chris!! (Gloria 1 was claimed by one of my baristas so got a good home!)

Spring 2025 - by our first anniversary of featuring music, we are an  established music lounge and drawing a wonderful array of artists.  As we considered how we want to refresh our space to reflect our new status, I was approached by Mark Stevens (Mark Stevens Fine Pianos) - he had some pianos he didn’t want to relocate to a new space and thought one, a Yamaha G3 Baby Grand, would be perfect for The PG Meetinghouse.  Between a couple of my regular jazz pianists trying it out and loving it, and the fact that it’s already named Gloria 3 😃 and it was destiny.  Mark very graciously cut me the best deal he could.  And Chris came back to both move Gloria 3 into place, and also to help us donate Gloria 2 to an assisted living facility in the Santa Cruz Mountains that was recommended to us by one of our artists.  Thank you so much Mark and Chris!!

And here we are, with a truly special instrument that fits our mission to bring the best music on the peninsula to “Pacific Grove’s Living Room” for you!
